Interactive Promotion of Archaeological Sites. Physical and Digital Guided Tours.
Enhancing Archaeological Sites. Interconnecting Physically and Digitally.
The project “InterArch: Enhancing Archaeological Sites. Physical and Digital Guided Tours,” project code T2EDK-01659, implements a model digital guided tour system for archaeological sites using augmented reality (AR). The application engages all the senses through storytelling and allows users to engage at various levels of interactivity with both the information and the physical environment, with the goal of providing a personalized experience. An example of a pilot application is the archaeological site of Ancient Messene. The research aims to promote and highlight archaeological sites and will serve as a model for similar applications throughout Greece.
The InterArch project was carried out in collaboration with four organizations: the Laboratory of Architectural Space and Communication at the School of Architectural Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, the Messinia Ephorate of Antiquities, the Society for Messinian Archaeological Studies, and Diadrasis.
The entire project, which began in 2020 and was completed in 2023, was carried out as part of the “RESEARCH – CREATE” – INNOVATE, 2nd CYCLE, and was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union and by national funds through the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship & Innovation (EPANEK).
